My Buffalo WHR-HP-G300N with firmware 16214 and cable modem - Motorola SB5100 is having similar problem as reported by this ticket, details as below:

I use PPPoE before with my WHR-HP-G300N for WAN connection, it works fine without any problem for months. I changed to a cable provider recently and now I need to use Auto Config - DHCP for WAN. Since that change I found WHR-HP-G300N stop flowing traffic to/from Internet once or twice a day (problem occur at no fixed time interval, can be just a few hrs. or after 24 hrs. but never more than 48 hrs.), power reset Motorola SB5100 without any help but if I issue "DHCP Renew" from the "Status -> WAN" page in the WHR-HP-G300N side then Internet traffic will get flow again.

When Internet traffic stopped I found nothing unusual of DHCP settings as reported from the "Status -> WAN" page: WAN IP, Subnet Mask, Gateway IP, DNS IP are all there, and Connection Uptime / Remaining Lease Time are continue counting (DHCP Remaining Lease Time is 29 days as assigned from the cable modem side in a fresh startup)

At this point if I performance a "DHCP Renew" then Internet access will resume. I found no new WAN IP acquired from the cable provider side, it is the same as the old one, however, the Connection Uptime counter will get reset and start counting up from 00:00:00. DHCP Remaining Lease Time will start counting down but it also got reset to 29 days.

I found that this Internet traffic stop issue can be triggered by power recycle the cable modem side with WHR-HP-G300N connected. If cable modem being power reset then I have to issue a "DHCP Renew" in WHR-HP-G300N manually in order to restore the Internet access, to reboot or power reset WHR-HP-G300N will also get problem fixed.
