EAP-TLS does not work with iPhone and MAC-OS Lion

Description
Hi,
i am in the process of setting up certificate based EAP-TLS authentication against a radius server.
I have the following status:
I am using dd-wrt build 17589 on an Linksys E4200 router, same behaviour was seen with build 17201.
With DD-WRT, a Windows 7 PC and a MAC-OS Snow-Leopard can successfully authenticate through the DD-WRT-Router, but iPhone 4.3.2 and Lion 10.7.2 can not authenticate.
As a cross-check, I verified that all systems (Win7, Snow Leo, iPhone, Lion) can successfully authenticate when I use a Netgear Router running OpenWRT, as well as the iPhone can authenticate (using the same config and cert on the iphone, and using the same radius server in the backend) though my companies Cisco WLAN access-points.
So I think i boiled it down to be an issue with dd-wrt. I have run some wireshark traces (bad case:iPhone and good case:Win7), the only difference I found is that in the TLS client hello, Win7 only offers 12 cipher suites while iphone offers 29 suites. My suspicion is that either the amount of offered suites causes some kind of internal buffer overflow, or one of the suites offered causes the problem.
Another thing which I came across is that when iPhone tries to connect to dd-wrt (which fails),wireshark detects the SSL protocol, while when the same iPhone connects to OpenWRT, wireshark detects the TLSv1 protocol.
